This project took 5 months to complete, from June until October 1998. It followed on from earlier work by a more experienced programmer, to whom I am grateful for various tips and access to his source code. It was submitted as my dissertation for the MSc Information Technology course at Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh.
My main objective was to gain experience with C++, but I also spent some time getting to grips with IBM-PC assembler. To date, I have trained as a medic, not a programmer, so this project was a bit of a challenge. I have no doubt that some of the code will be viewed with suspicion by more experienced programmers, and I welcome any comments or suggestions from others who have experience in this area. The final executable may be distributed freely - there are no copyright restrictions. It was tested on an Elonex 486DX66 with 16Mb of RAM running MS-DOS 6.2, linked to an SDN with 15 nodes. No guarantee of successful operation on other systems is offered!
