Roborovskis Hamster
Phodopus roborovskii
The Roborovski is the baby of the family, and also the speediest, as anyone who has tried
to recapture an escapee will testify.
They do not bite, but are difficult to handle on account
of their size.
The adults are a sandy-brown colour with white stripes above the eyes.
Their behaviour is similar to other Dwarfs, with the occasional outbreaks of fighting,
sometimes with several members ganging up upon an individual [Chris Henwood, BHA Journal
July 1993].
They do not appear to have any major differences in either housing or dietary
requirements compared to other Dwarf species, although plastic tanks are probably more
suitable than wire mesh cages for housing, in view of their small size.
They are not suitable as pets for young children.
